Positive Power of Words for a Cancer Patient

Positive Power of Words for a Cancer Patient

Do you believe words have power? Intentionally framing my cancer journey through my choice of words has become really important to me.

Lots of literature notes how people with cancer who feel helpless have worse outcomes than those who take control of the personal decisions regarding treatment, lifestyle, doctors. Along with that idea comes research showing those who do not view their cancer as a “fight” also end up doing better. The concept stems from the notion that cancer cells are one’s own body; so it’s not about “battling” one’s body, it’s about getting one’s body back in balance with treatments aimed at strengthening one’s overall biochemistry that can repair the cancer situation from the inside-out. And yes, very targeted therapies can be a part of that overall healing plan.

There is a positive power of words for a cancer patient! Have you heard the saying, “Every cell in your body is eavesdropping on your thoughts.” With all this and more in mind, I very intentionally choose to say “I am HEALING from cancer” instead of “battling cancer” or “fighting cancer”. What are some of the mindset shifts you’ve experienced that have helped your journey?
